Yesterday I was following a small thread in a post only because the writer posted something that I thought was pretty controversial. I didn't care to comment but just wanted to see how it played out. Nothing earth shattering, and it didn't even have anything to do with real estate.
As it turns out, the first couple of comments thought it was controversial too, and commented appropriately. As the day wore on and I went back to check to see if there were any other comments, the earlier ones were missing. While they disagreed with her post, they did so in a respectful way, and also provided data to support their conclusion.
I do understand her absolute right to delete any comments she wants. It's a right that should be also be taken seriously if you wish to develop any kind of a following on Active Rain.
We don't live in a world where everyone agrees. As a real estate agent, that should be pretty obvious. Nevertheless, the comments came down and nothing more was said. At least nothing more was said to her, but some people did notice.
At times comments should be deleted. Blatant advertising or self promotion in a comment...goner. Inappropriate language...goner. Disrespectful comment...goner. Everything else, put on your big girl or big boy pants and deal with it. If you can't, then stay with posts that are boring but safe.
Once you toss it out there into cyberspace, its fair game.
