Annapolis 42nd Annual Sailboat Show this weekend

AnnapolisIt’s that time of year again to saunter down to Annapolis for the 42nd Annual Sailboat Show, on the City Dock. These shows draw tens of thousands of visitors, both purchasers and lookie loos. The show actually started yesterday for those lucky few with VIP passes. Friday, October 7th, thru Monday, October 12th everybody with a ticket is welcome to join the show.

One day tickets are $17, and tickets for children 7 - 12 are only $4. The show is open from 10 AM to 6:30 PM every day, except Monday, when it will close at 5 PM.

For those of you familiar with downtown Annapolis, you already know parking can be a challenge on days with busy events. Since the Boat Show is one of the busiest events of the year, you would be well advised to park at the Navy-Marine Corps stadium and shuttle in to downtown. Parking for the day is $10, and the shuttle bus is free. Parking on Saturday will be directed to Riva Road, since Navy is playing that day.

Enjoy the show, and remember that pets and strollers are discouraged because of safety concerns on the temporary docks. Oh yeah...if you’re a Power Boat enthusiast...that show is next weekend.

Annapolis MD, once the capital of the United States

Capital

Washington, DC became the permanent capital of the United States on November 17, 1800. Prior to that several Eastern cities were temporarily listed as the United States capital, including Annapolis, MD, Philadelphia, PA, Trenton and Princeton, NJ, and New York City, NY.

Annapolis received the distinction of being the temporary capital of the United States when the Congress of the Confederation met in the Maryland State House from November 26, 1783 to November 26, 1784. For a while, Annapolis, MD was in contention to become the permanent capital of the United States.

A little piece of trivia for the AR history buffs out there.

Quiet Waters Park - Arts and Music Festival

Sponsored by the Friends of Quiet Waters Park, Bank Annapolis, and Renewal by Andersen, the 21st Annual Arts and Music festival is being held on September 24th and 25th, 2011. Parking is free, admission is free, and the festival hours are 10 - 5.

Besides music, art, food, there is a juried craft fair on the grounds of Quiet Waters Park. The artisans are displaying many forms of crafts for sale, both outside under tents, and inside. You can see spectacular creations of pottery, photography, jewelrey, painting, woodcrafts, and many more.

I stopped by yesterday and the Festival was pleasantly crowded, but with more than enough room to move around. The weather today is expected to be overcast, but lets hope the rain stays away.

Annapolis MD Real Estate - Waterfront Homes for Sale August 9, 2011

Annapolis, MD

It's safe to say that Annapolis, MD is one of the top sailing venues in the entire world. The Capital of Maryland, and home to the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis also has some of the most sought after waterfront properties in the area.

If you act now, you can purchase a waterfront home and still get some sailing in before the season ends. On the least expensive end of the waterfront spectrum, you can get into a 1 bedroom, 1 bath condo, located on Severn Way. For a few extra bucks, you can purchase a 5 bedroom, 7 bath Single Family home on Whitehall Road. That one will set you back $8.5 Million. Lots of room to scoot around on this 39 acre estate. Call me...I'd love to show you that one.

As a matter of fact, if you're not already working with an agent, I can help you get into that waterfront property. Call Rich at 443-995-9595. Take a look at all the 165 waterfront properties for sale in Annapolis, MD on the map below.

July 4, 2011 - Annapolis, MD Fireworks Display

Annapolis FireworksFireworks displays are a favorite this time of year, and 2011 is no exception. Weather permitting, Annapolis will be holding their Annual Fireworks Display starting at 9:15. The barge will be out on the water where the Severn River meets Spa Creek. For boaters, there is a 1,000 foot safety zone surrounding the barge.

The best viewing access for the public will be from City Dock and the Spa Creek bridge. One thing to keep in mind is that large portions of downtown Annapolis will be closed to vehicle traffic starting around 4 PM, until approximately 10:30 PM. Even the Spa Creek bridge will be closed at 9 PM, making Eastport available only to pedestrian traffic for a while.

The drawbridge on the Spa Creek bridge, one of the busiest on the Eastern Seaboard, will be closed to boat traffic as well. Looks like you won’t be able to get your sailboat back into Spa Creek until after 11 PM. Clearly, the best place to park is going to be the Navy-Marine Corp Stadium and trolley in to downtown. Parking is $5, and the round trip trolley to downtown is free.

Schedule of Events for July 4, 2011 in downtown Annapolis:
6:30 PM - Parade going from West Street to Church Circle, then down Main Street.
8:00 PM - Naval Academy Band Concert at Susan Campbell Park on the City Dock.
9:15 PM - Fireworks on the Severn River where it meets Spa Creek. (The fireworks time is approximate due to the possibility of rain and lightning)

Wordless Wednesday - The Sun rises over Annapolis, MD

I thought I was going to be alone at 5:30 AM on Memorial Day, at the City Dock in Annapolis, MD. Not so. I was joined watching a beautiful sunrise by an exercise boot camp group, several couples looking to spark something early, and a couple of dog walkers. We were all greeted to this. On a clear day, I've never met a sunrise I didn't like.
