Hi Richard,
I had a wonderful vacation on a canal boat and it was such fun negotiating the locks.
I'll be cruising through the Panama Canal next month. I'll let you know if it's much different than your photo.
Richard, that's cool, kind of like the old days! I like it! It should make us appreciate the speed if nothing more of today's travel.
Hi Rich! This looks like fun! I love the oldtime costumes, too. Where was this?
Debi
Richard
It's was hard work to move the canal boats.
Good luck and success.
Lou Ludwig
Richard, people can rent the canal boat for parties. The donkey is the best part.
Sharon, It does take a little time but the concept still works just fine.
Lorrie, Have a great trip. Different locks though.
Tony and Darcy, These locks are from the old days and still operational.
Debi, Great Falls Maryland. The C&O Canal ran 184 miles from West Virginia, through Maryland to the Georgetown section of DC. A guy pulls it out of the lock and than its attached to Mules or Donkeys who pull it on the towpath. It's really neat to watch.
Lou, It was hard work but an effective way to move commerce in those days.
Pat, I have a few pictures of the Mules/Donkeys walking it on the towpath.
Boy, what hard work built this country...from large numbers of mostly unknown people.
Rich,
Looks like a great exoperience for those on board. What a wonderful concept those locks. :)
Steve
Looks like a step back in time photo but I know it is curent... Thanks for sharing..
Jim, You're right. Most of them are forgotten in time.
Steve, Amazing way to transport goods back then.
Diane, Very current...two weeks ago.
