I guess this is why they're in jail.

Fox News is reporting that almost 1,300 inmates applied for, and received, the $8,000 tax credit for 1st time home buyers. One problem though...they were in jail at the time they claimed the home purchase.

You just can't make this stuff up. Heck, it's obvious they already had a home.

Here's another one you can't make up...so far, 87 IRS employees improperly received the tax credit. I like that creative wording, "improperly received the tax credit." Just goes to show you how complicated those tax returns are getting.

Hi Richard-

Actually, it sounds like the form is easy to fill out, but the instructions are hard to understand?  Too funny!

I hate it when inmates act like criminals... the nerve of some people.

Richard-I"m shaking my head in utter amazement at how STUPID our lovely politicians can be...do they REALLY have a brain in their heads?  This is whacked!

Amazing to see that they thought they could get away with it.  Too funny.

Richard

Maybe they purchased a jail house condo. Unbelievable.

Good luck and success.

Richard, I don't watch Fox news, but I read that on Thing Big, Work Small today.  Huh?  That was some clever mortgage person over there.   Hope he/she likes their new roomies.  As for the IRS agents....hmmm.  Me thinks the fox is watching the henhouse again.

All I can do is CMA and watch the world got nuts!!!!

What I'm reading is the 1300 inmates figured out the form but only 87 IRS employees tried and they botched it. Hmmm...

Richard, The whole problem with this scenario is that they RECEIVED the tax refund!  It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out the refund was going to jail.

If it was their first trip to their new home wouldn't they count as first time buyers?

Richard - That's nuts.  I hadn't heard about this one, but I guess nothing really surprises me anymore.

I think the checks went to a real address, perhaps a relative. It sounds like they try to fake a purchase, not that they claimed they bought their jail cell.

Maybe the inmates are in jail for improperly receiving stereos? and LOL @ Stacey-Ann!

Richard, I had to put my 4 letter words on hold when I read about this and seen it on TV.  There is so much scam going on right now, that they are getting more and more bolder and don't care who they screw, even if they are dead and gone.

How could something like this happen?  I hope they extend all their times in the big house.

LOL~~It's all in the wording isn't it? Now to solve the age old TOO-MAY-TOE or TA-MA-TOE conundrum...

I saw the inmates bit, but hadn't heard about the IRS employees.  They really need to throw the book at these guys.

It's too bad that some folks see $$$ and they try to find a way to get it.  I had someone ask me to help them buy a home from their live in partner to qualify.  I opted not to get involved.

Clever way to get funds for the prison commissary. Think, Richard, if these folks had just used those smarts to walk the straight and narrow.  The IRS folks are somewhat less surprising...
