Wikipedia defines Evolution as the change over time in one or more inherited traits found in populations of individuals.
When I woke up this morning I swear that I'm growing gills on both sides of my neck. Evolving to better handle the weather we've had here in Crofton, MD. Unfortunately, some basements around here have evolved too...into indoor pools.
I can't remember the last time we didn't have a rainy day here. Oh yeah...it was the day we had the earthquake a couple of weeks ago. Sunny, clear with just a hint of ground movement.
Finally, late this afternoon a giant orange orb finally peeked through the clouds. Someone mentioned that they remember it's called the Sun. Go figure, they actually have a name for that thing.
Crofton residents...my iPhone tells me that big orange orb will be back out again tomorrow, Saturday. Enjoy it while it lasts, because it looks like it goes back into hiding again Sunday.

Rich - This post is funny on so many levels....first the "Creature from the Black Lagoon". How many people remember that wonderful horror flick?
And, second, my upbringing in Washington state is echoed in your statement of the giant orange orb finally peeking through the clouds. We used to run and hide when that appeared, certain that destruction was only minutes away!
And, to have last seen the giant orange orb on the day the earth shook.....what's next? Locusts?
Stay safe and dry and don't get too close to that giant orange orb, I hear it turns your skin a golden tan.
We have had such a wonderfully mild summer here, that I feel guilty when I communicate with those is so many other states, which are enduring substantial rains and flooding, while still others can catch a break from drought. About evolution. . .Sometimes I think it goes backwards rather than forwards. Did you know that Dolphins are believed to be the only species that evolved to land, and then returned to the sea?
Richard,
I pray the sun comes out to stay for awhile and all your rain moves down to TEXAS. We need it just as you need the sun.
Take care my friend.
Richard---it's been a cool summer in Sonoma and the biggest complaint I have is that our gardens look chlorotic. I hope your weather clears up soon.
We've had a lot of rain here too, Richard. I make sure I have umbrellas in the car all the time. We do have periods of intense sunshine in between but lots and lots of rain. It's been cooler than normal too but the weather guy says that's history as of today.
Post a picture when the gills develop; that might be interesting ;)
Rich, I hope the sun comes out and decides to stay a few days in your area. We had huge storm come over us yesterday fast and furious and went just as quickly!
Rich~
OH MY!!! I had to laugh out loud as I read your post! The weather has a mind of her own these days, eh? And how it affects us...well, if it can make us smile via this post, it may be OK.
