Annapolis MD, once the capital of the United States

Capital

Washington, DC became the permanent capital of the United States on November 17, 1800. Prior to that several Eastern cities were temporarily listed as the United States capital, including Annapolis, MD, Philadelphia, PA, Trenton and Princeton, NJ, and New York City, NY.

Annapolis received the distinction of being the temporary capital of the United States when the Congress of the Confederation met in the Maryland State House from November 26, 1783 to November 26, 1784. For a while, Annapolis, MD was in contention to become the permanent capital of the United States.

A little piece of trivia for the AR history buffs out there.

I will have to admit I was not a good history student when I was in school. I say this because I was unaware that other locations were considered or were the capital of the US.

I am also surprised that you only got one comment for this post. Such a great picture! I was wondering what that building was wheather a store or home. I am talking about the one in the V of that fork in the road.

Rich, I wrote about this when I did a profile on your state.  I should get back to those profiles on states.  They were fun!
