Geez Rich, you're getting a bit anal retentive as you get older.
When I voted this morning I started the stopwatch on my iPhone to see how long it was going to take.
From walking in the door at my polling place, to verifying and getting a ballot, to voting, and finally leaving, the total elapsed time was 2:22. Laughable, I brought a book with me after watching TV this morning about the long lines everywhere.
Competence by the local voting officials and volunteers here in Crofton, MD is outstanding and usually underappreciated. Thank you!
I'm sure the media will be concentrating on the horror stories of people trying to vote today, because that's what they do. The Croftons of America will be ignored completely. Man votes in two minutes and twenty two seconds...no news there.

Richard, amazing use of the stopwatch on the iPhone. Very impressive with your poll workers getting you in there that fast. Congratulations on voting!!
Richard, Apparently you didn't get the message that the vote was rescheduled for Wednesday, there is a bag of dirty tricks going on that, people are telling the Republican to Vote Tuesday and the Democrats to go to the polls on Wednesday to avoid the long lines (you didn't get the memo)
I can only hope I have a similar experience but I do have my book, just in case!
I can't beat that! I went prepared for a couple hours but it only took about 20 minutes.
Rich...
I think that most polling places are ready for the onslaught .... and that the problems will be few and far between. Great idea, timing it! Very interesting.
Hi Richard
Two minutes and twenty two seconds to change the course of history for America, I'll be voting shortly.
Good luck and success
Lou Ludwig
Richard,
That is great news......my sister waited 4 1/2 hours to early vote in Duluth, Georgia. My 21 year old son had no wait to early vote in Darien, Georgia. My husband and I are about to find out how long it is going to take us.
Thanks for voting.
Richard, you are Mr. high tech. I am sure Apple is going to put you in their next commercial. Thank-you for voting none the less...
Gary, I appreciate the competance they displayed. It can very often be a thankless job.
Steve, Maybe I did get the memo since I voted today ;)
Beth, When I was a boy scout they always told us to be prepared.
Chad, 20 minutes isn't bad compared to a lot of locations.
Richard, I'm waiting for the local paper to call me for an interview on my experience.
Lou, No excuse not to vote today.
Julie, I've been voting here in Crofton, MD since 1991 and I don't think if I totaled up all the time since then it would add up to 4 1/2 hours. We're blessed with competent poll workers and election officials.
Paul, From your comment to Apple's ears.
It was a 3 hour wait per the pole workers when I went by. I will wait till later and try again. 3 hours is just crazy. Like we dont have other things to do.
Laura, It's so strange that there can be that many disparities in the country. Like real estate, I guess all politics is local too.
Outstanding!
Our volunteers for this massive undertaking are wildly underappreciated and it's great to hear of an instance where the process went off just as our founding fathers would have envisioned!
I'm not sure if we were quite that fast but got in and out in no time. I hope that doesn't mean a low turnout in my precinct.
There was an old joke that ended with: "Wham, Bam, Thank You Mam". That's about what I thought when my husband and I did the quick voting this a.m. Gotta love it!

It took me less than four minutes to vote today, and part of that was settling an arguement between the kids over who got to put the ballot into the box. I have gone past the polling station a couple of times today, and there is a steady stream of people and in out every time.
I didn't time my visit, but it was about the same as yours. The longest I've ever waited to vote in Crofton has probably never been more than 15 minutes, but today was really a record for speed. 'Seems like they may have had more voting machines, so that probably helped.
Hi Rich, my vote was as quick as yours was. The parking lot was busy with people coming and going, I walked right in straight to the table then the booth and back out the door.
Gosh, I went at 10 am in my little town. I think I waited in line about 15 minutes, so you did well. Congrats on the star!
If I had an iPhone or a stopwatch I imagine my voting experience would have taken around the same amount of time yours did. I'm a fan of good news, thanks for the blog!
I didn't have any line this afternoon, took all of about 10 minutes...but was surprised to find that this state uses shared tables and felt tip markers for voting...quite different from the private booths and buttons in the western states I've voted in.
I left the house early today with the expectation that I would have to wait in line and if there was lines I thought I would go to the polls at 2 PM after the lunch rush. Upon arriving at the polling place this morning at 8:15 AM, I found that there was less than a dozen cars in the lot. I pulled over, went to the door and was greeted by a worker and they asked for a photo ID. I gave it to them, then was directed to the registration table where they pulled up my registration and asked me to sign, then they gave me a paper ballot, told me to be sure to fill out both sides which I did. It took me less than 7 minutes to do this. Thanks to the efficiency at our polling place.
Rich, When did our country let the media and television celebrities choose our Presidential Candidate?! I cannot even believe this is going on. It has become, all about how much money you spend. We had no line today in our small town in Connecticut. Again, cannot believe the media:)
Lucky you, I voted early last week and still had to wait for about 20 minutes because there was a line - albeit relatively fast moving - out the door. But all things considered.... all of us who have the freedom to vote are the lucky ones regardless of how long it takes!
No line in Westmister MD. I did not time how long it took, but it was close to your 2:22.
Bob, Since I've lived here the process has been flawless every time I vote.
Cindy, By all accounts the turnout is going to one of the highest ever.
Joan, I'm not going to touch that line with a ten foot pole.
Brenda, Congratulations, thats the way its supposed to work.
Margaret, We're blessed to live and work in Crofton. One of the best little towns in the country.
Christine, Marlene, John, Mara, Marlin, Very painless process today. Congrats on voting.
Frances, I believe in a free media but when they're that biased I have to wonder.
Silvia, 20 minutes isn't bad for a presidential election. I'm not a fan of early voting though.
Rick, I wasn't trying to set a record, but the process was just flawless.
Try 6 minutes here and we did have some lines but we had plenty of booths. I was as always pleased with our people. They have always done a terrific job and get very little credit for it.
Rich - Several friends waiting up to 4 hours today... I walked into my precinct received my ballot and was out the door in under 5 minutes flat...
I've got you beat!! It took me 10 minutes to vote today, including my drive time (4 min round trip). There was a short line, one ahead of me several already in the booths. The most time consuming part was filling in the circles!! My town doesn't even have the old lever machines, never mind the malfunctioning hackable computers you hear about on the news.
There were a few places around here where voting was taking about 2 hours (according to our online local newspaper) but luckily nobody I talked to had to wait any more than about 20 minutes. My mom even got to stand in line behind the town gossips and got some valuable info about some of her neighbors, which she considers time well spent.
Charles, These are long days for election officials and volunteers. They do deserve our credit and thanks.
Debbie, Can't complain about five minutes. Florida has had their problems in the past.
Mokane, I went green this year...walked to the polling station about three blocks away.
Jenn, I hope your Mom heard about a few people who might be moving :)
Rich- my experience was similar to yours. I left the office around lunch time, and not one person was in front of me at the table when I walked in. I was in and out in less than five minutes, and went right back to the office. I'm sure it's a very long day for the volunteers. I give them credit.
Kristal, Most of the experiences just lead me to believe that the networks concentrate their negative news on a very small minority of places. Good for you.
Richard:
I went to vote at just after 5PM this evening. There are two voter precincts here in the Leisure World community in Silver Spring Md. I too spent more time in the voting booth than going thur the process of getting to it.
I ask the precient worker at the sign in station about the voter turn out. She told me the last figure she had up to 4PM was about 2500 voters in this precinct. But no great problems getting peoiple to the booth.
Bob, For all our challenges, Maryland does seem to do the election process right compared to so many other States.
No horror stories from me. I think it took me about 5 minutes, and that included wrangling my 10 month old and my 5 year old and answering all of the 5 years old's questions.
Christine, When my kids were growing up I could still answer their questions when they were five. Glad to hear you didn't have any problems. That's the way it's supposed to work.
Man, that would have been wonderful...mine was about 90 minutes
I went twice and was amazed that each time from the closing of the car door to returning to it was less than 15 minutes each time. Most of that was running my mouth to other voters and volunteers. Quick and painless.
Jeremy, Ugh! I would have waited the 90 minutes in order to vote but I'm glad it was only two.
Trunda, Twice huh! I'm sure you didn't mean you voted twice :)
I voted early and there were no lines at all. But using your iPhone's timer, that's a clever blogger for ya. Hopefully there won't be too much grumbling about voting inefficiencies after it is all said and done. Aloha from Kauai...
Ronnie, The iPhone is amazing. It's not close enough for grumbling except for die hards. It's over for the next four years.
It was only a couple of minutes for me as well. Long lines in Manhattan though. Btw, I'm jealous of the iPhone. I'm getting one as SOON as my Verizon contract ends.
I "early voted" for fear brought on by the media, of long lines ........ I really am starting to dislike the media. I think the evening news should be replaced by reruns of the Brady Bunch!
I have an absentee ballot that I had to turn in at a local polling place, and I dare say, I might have beat your record - and I even had two kids in tow who got voting stickers as well! And you're right, I'm sure this "good news" will never make the headlines. The saying is that "No news is good news.", but I really think the media translates that sometimes into "Good news is NOT news." LOL
